Cookies Lisa Burris The Batch Springfield ILAs a follow-up to our Christmas blog post, kudos to Lisa Burris of The Batch!  Cookies baked and sold in November and December of 2009 through her fundraising ministry raised $11,200 to finance a much needed bathroom renovation project for Contact Ministries, a faith based, not-for-profit organization which has an emergency homeless shelter for women and children and provides food, clothing and other essentials to people in need in Springfield, IL.  Lisa Burris was also personally responsible for recruiting Curt Trampe of Dream Maker Bath & Kitchen to donate $8,400 worth of labor and supplies to Contact Ministries for a second bathroom project.  Lisa Burris had this to say about the success of her endeavors on behalf of this organization:

There are really no words to adequately describe the joy that has been mine while working towards the goals set for the bathroom projects! Thank you for the privilege of serving along side of you as we have witnessed God provide a miracle for the needs of Contact Ministries.  All glory to Him and may many be changed because of all He has allowed to be accomplished.

Lisa Burris will continue baking in support of other faith-based charities and is already working towards goals set for 2010.  You can learn more about her inspirational mission and how to help by ordering cookies from the On the Radar at Omni blog or a recent article in the State Journal Register.

TheBatchCookies     Omni Communications Group is giving the gift of delicious gourmet cookies this holiday season from The Batch.  The Batch was founded by Lisa Burris in May of 2008, and Lisa herself bakes and sells all the cookies from her own kitchen in Springfield, IL.  She then donates all the profits she makes each month to different faith-based organizations in Springfield and around the world.  In the last year and a half, Lisa Burris has raised over $50,000 for Springfield charities like the Inner City Mission and Contact Ministries as well as others around the world like the Haitian Christian Mission, Chinese orphanages, and the Water Supply Project in Nepal.  If you would like to help those less fortunate through your gift giving this holiday season, you can order cookies from The Batch by calling 217-793-3473.  Cookies from The Batch are delivered locally in the Springfield, IL area and can be shipped elsewhere.   Here is Lisa Burris discussing her ministry and those she has helped through her baking for The Batch.

Omni applauds the commendable efforts of Lisa Burris and has been inspired to volunteer for the benefit of others.  As a team, the staff from Omni worked together on Wednesday, December 16 to help Contact Ministries  prepare for their holiday assistance efforts at Westminster Presbyterian Church.  We assembled food bags and sorted clothes and toys to help make the holiday season brighter for families in need in the Springfield area.  And we had a great time too!  Happy holidays to everyone from Omni Communications Group.

It’s beginning to look a lot like the holidays in the Omni Communications Group office after our ornament-making session this morning.  Take a look at our festive creations, now hung all over the front entrance area.  Thanks to Tracee for getting all the materials and for her expert instruction.  We’ve got holiday music playing, and now all we need is candy, cookies and popcorn to complete the scene properly.  We’ll be working on that next.

It’s a really good SEO (search engine optimization) tool for link building to our Web site, she said.

NOAA Science on a Sphere in Springfield, ILI had the extreme pleasure to preview a new technology and visual extravaganza recently at a local museum that is slated for opening later this fall. It was a project called Science on a Sphere, housed at the Land Surveyors Museum in downtown Springfield, Illinois, and developed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA). To describe it is, well, impossible. Suffice it to say it changes – literally – your perspective on things like geography, astronomy, meteorology, land changes, migration, on and on. What struck me as I sat, uncharacteristically with a loss for words, while watching this amazing demonstration, was how lucky we are in this town to have the treasures we do. From the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, historic sites, museums, art and gift boutiques, and downright incredible locally owned and operated dining establishments, we are the keepers of great treasures! To dovetail onto the “Buy Local” theme, I would say let’s “Appreciate Local” and visit these treasures, spread the word, and get busy enjoying them!

Aaron1Yesterday we bid a sad farewell to Aaron, who is leaving Omni after three years employment to go back to school in pursuit of a master’s degree in visual communications.  While we applaud his efforts to expand his knowledge of graphic design, we are left in the dark, literally and figuratively, by his departure.  Not only was Aaron an amazing designer and a darn nice person to work with, he was also well over six feet tall, a serious advantage when changing all the lightbulbs around the office way up in the recesses of our 30 foot ceiling.  He became a master at moving the outrageously heavy 20 foot ladder around the office and positioning it perfectly to reach all the burnt out bulbs.  We did have a nice going away lunch at Sammy’s Sports Bar yesterday, and presented Aaron with a custom designed t-shirt depicting the special memories we have of  him, things none of us will ever forget:  the huge ladder, lightbulbs, ferrets, a water bottle and sandwich, his character from the last Omni holiday card, Lincoln’s hat, his beloved hot dog, and the Omni logo he redesigned.  We feel very fortunate to have known him and had the chance to work with him, and all at Omni wish him the very best with all his future endeavors.  Following is the design from Aaron’s custom-made t-shirt.
